About

Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore continues to support our development of Robotics by sponsoring our FIRST Lego League  and FIRST Tech Challenge Teams and offering clubs and programs that enhance their love for Science and Engineering and prepare them for the 21st Century.

The Electro Llamas have moved up to FTC Team 6934 – The TranSisters and will be competing in the 2013 FTC Challenge Block Party.

The FLL Bouquet Bunch will be preparing for their second year of competition.  FIRST Lego League released the new 2013 challenge “Nature’s Fury” on August 27th.

Can FIRST® LEGO® League teams help us master natural disasters?  In the 2013 NATURE’S FURY℠ Challenge, over 200,000 children ages 9 to 16* from over 70 countries will explore the awe-inspiring storms, quakes, waves and more that we call natural disasters. Teams will discover what can be done when intense natural events meet the places people live, work, and play.  Brace yourself for NATURE’S FURY!

FLL challenges kids to think like scientists and engineers.  During NATURE’S FURY teams will build, test, and program an autonomous robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS® to solve a set of missions in the Robot Game.  They will also choose and solve a realworld problem in the Project.  Throughout their experience, teams will operate under FLL’s signature set of Core Values.

Can FIRST® LEGO® League teams improve the quality of life for seniors by helping them continue to be independent, engaged, and connected in their communities? In the 2012 SENIOR SOLUTIONS Challenge, over 200,000 children ages 9 to16* from more than 60 countries will explore the topic of aging and how it may affect a person’s ability to maintain his or her lifestyle – solving issues like getting around, keeping in touch, or staying fit. Teams will research obstacles and then suggest ways to improve the quality of life for the seniors affected. Teams will also build, test, and program an autonomous robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS® robot to solve a set of missions on an obstacle course.  Throughout their experience, teams will operate under FLL’s signature set of Core Values.

History

We started with 2008 Climate Connections and attended the Steinert Slam F.I.R.S.T. Lego League (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) competition. It was our rookie year and we did not advance.  We were excited to continue the program and expand our offering to help start Jr FLL teams.

We won 1st place in 2009 Smart Moves for robot design and missed 1st place in competition by only 5 points at the Rowan University FLL Qualifier.

In 2010 we registered two teams and advanced one with 1st place for their Research Project .

We advanced to the Delaware First State FLL for the 2009 and 2010 Champion’s Tournament.

In 2011 we won the project award however due to changes in the scoring criteria, did not advance to the States. We attended the States to cheer for two Girl Scouts teams that advanced.

In 2012 we won the project award and again advanced to the Delaware First State FLL  Champion’s Tournament.

Our FLL team 2468 Bouquet Bunch will work hard to improve our robot score and we hope to advance to the States and possibly the Worlds!

Coach History

I have been a coach of all four FIRST Robotic levels (FRC-JFLL) and have been involved with FIRST since 2005.   In 2005 my team was selected to represent, New Jersey as one of the 53 international teams piloting the VEX Program.   My teams have been sponsored by NASA, Radio Shack and other FIRST companies.  I have met Larry Page (Google), Dean Kamen (Deka), Woodie Flowers (MIT) and Dave Lavery (FRC team 116 and Mars Rovers – NASA).  I have achieved the impossible by believing in FIRST and will continue to do my best to continue sharing the experience it brings.
